The name comes from the phrase "Physical Widgets" which somewhat describes their function.
For a long time Hobbyists, Inventors, Home Scientists, Students, and Computer Developers have been frustrated by not being able to quickly build their ideas because of the difficult challenge of learning Electronic Engineering.
When an idea involves electronics many people hit a wall and find themselves at a loss realizing that sometimes years of learning are needed to design and build circuit boards.
This is where Phidgets step in. Put simply, Phidgets allow a person to bypass the difficulty of electronics and use their computer as the circuit board. Phidgets interface with many common electronic components and translate their functionality into common computer languages such as Visual Basic, C++, Java, Delphi, and Foxpro.
This allows a Hobbyist or Inventor to quickly build a physical device which may have buttons, switches, motors, servos, lights, or more on it and plug it into the USB port of their home computer.
From there they can use code to receive data and send out commands to bring their creation to life!
NOTE: All Phidgets are new and improved!
